Sodor
The Island of Sodor is an Island located south of the Isle of Man and West of Wales. The island has an overwhelming history from its construction in the 1920s to its role in the rapid growth period of technology in the 1980s and 90s. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction with the Sodor Station, the Sodor Mountain Organization, and the Sodor Cities Council.
1924-1975: The Beginning[edit]
The Island of Sodor was founded as an independent nation in 1924 in the aftermath of the Sodor Independence War (1920-1924). Conflict began between the British Army and Sodor Loyalists began as Early as 1899. In 1920, however, Sodor Loyalists rose up near the British Isle Train Station (Now the Sodor Station). A war soon began between divisions in Wales and the Sodor Loyalists at the Train Station. When capturing the Sodor provincial capital, Fat Control, the war ended with Sodor victory.
Sodor remained Neutral in World War 2 and the Cold War.
1975-1979: Thomas Power[edit]
After the long rise, the Sodor Services fell into relative obscurity and isolation from the early-60s to the mid-1970s. Wishing to ease the recently established Sodor Cities Concil, the Fat Controller ordered production for Thomas the Tank Engine to help the lives of many. Using an innovative combination of coal and wind, the Sodor Cities Council was eventually pleased.
1979-1990: Immense Change[edit]
As technology advanced further in the 1980s, Sodor became increasingly identified with new types of technology for Generation Y. Its rise in popularity brought with it new problems, including financial troubles throughout the Island. Gordon, having become the loudest and most consistent condemnatory engine in Sodor's transformation, announced that he'd be the first engine to be ran by a computer.
"I'm going to be ran by Computers, and none of you bumbums are going to stop me!" - Gordon, 1983
Gordon's opinion of the island was, however, quite different. Another engine, Edward - meant for cleaning up rubbish - deannounced Gordon as a Liar. Edward, characterized by friends as a "i want not much," asserted that he had never had a problem with Gordon until now
Gordon broke the following year and was, to Edward's pleasement, never made again since.
1990-2010: Isolation and a Lost Engine[edit]
After 1990, Sodor quickly fell into isolation again as technology drained most resources. In 1997 it made national headlines when a local engine, Henry, got stuck in a tunnel as ordered by the Fat Controller. According to Henry, he didn't want his colours ruined while the weather was rain and after negotiations, it was agreed to have Henry stuck in the tunnel until he learned his lesson. Eventually, a month after, Henry was let out and got to race with Gordon and Edward.
The story of Henry's tunnel scandal sensationalized the neighborhood and tourists came pouring in to see his house and the scenes of the murders.
2010-Present: The Modern Sodor[edit]
Since 2010, Sodor has lost much of its unique culture and feel. It is extremely similar to Europe's other islands, being a mix of both the homely and the gaudy. It has been likely for months, however, a new Government will form, one that won't just focus on Trains and the residents as well. A sign has also been recently built to welcome tourists with this message:
And this, here, is the Island of Sodor
