Slut shaming
Slut shaming is the basis of modern society — the pillar on which decent people plop their weight — the great turtle on which morality stands in order to reach the top shelf. But it is equally important as an amusement,[1] the amount of which is limited only by the number of —
- Definitions of the term "slut,"
- Available shaming techniques, and
- Participants on hand.
"Slut"
The term "slut" signifies a woman whose fortress is not well-guarded. The concept is relative, not only because the figurative winners write the history of war, but because the proverbial pen is mightier than the sword. Thus, every human being unfortunate enough to be born female is a potential slut, and many live up to their potential.
Sigmund Freud stated that sexual desire motivates human actions. Nevertheless, slut shaming is not always sexual. The alleged slut can be a teenager who bares a fraction of her body (any fraction) for a fraction of a second in front of a fraction of a camera; or equally likely an elderly Cambridge lady, researching into the role of slut shaming.[2]
So it is not that a woman defends her fortress but that she burrows under the fortress of social control — such as when she criticises slut shaming itself. A key defense that society uses is the "slut factor," as a woman is not only a slut when she acts sluttily, but especially when she resists acting sluttily. To further show the term's marvelous adaptability, a woman acting maximally slutty is never called a "slut" by her co-actor, at least for the entire time they are in bed together.
Origins
The basis for slut shaming is the fact that women simply desire sex less than men. Every married man can attest that women lack the stuff that volleyball players refer to as "libero". If a woman were to spread her attention around, she would begin to experience more than the usual boredom with her mate. Thus, men need their wives to observe absolute monogamy. Depending on his sexual appetite, a man may need several women to do so. The Utah Territory was organized on this principle, though it eventually traded it in for the vagaries of statehood.
Unfortunately, everything invented to further the goal of marital fidelity (including diamond rings and other presents, the wedding vow, and the chastity belt) has merely spawned numerous work-arounds.
History
When women's portfolio in life was expanded from cooking and cleaning into morality, slut shaming was invented, though not called that at that time. The new mandate was implemented with carrot-and-stick. Slut shaming was the stick, whereas the carrot was martyrdom, eventual canonization and being regarded as a role model by the rest of humanity — or being called a prude for the rest of one's life.
During that era (and also all the later ones), slut shaming became an essential ruling process of humanity. If not for slut shaming, the world would have already fallen into the hands of those with no knowledge of how to hold society together. Females who already possess the required knowledge are sluts by definition.
Morality for men is less interesting, not only because it has never existed, but also because men's main opportunity to claim a virtuous life is to go around forcing all the nearby women to do so. Morality has always stood side-by-side with pleasure in male spirit (inspiring terms such as "moral pleasure"). Slut shaming is the vital glue that links the two concepts.
Pastime
Slut shaming transcends the alleged moral concept, includes all the intangible pleasure deriving from morality, and extends to many tangible acts, such as spelling out SLUT in huge letters on the house of a girl who goes out too often with too many men (and never with the painter himself).
What makes it a pastime is the number of possible techniques designed to make a woman feel ashamed for what she is doing or not doing. Each technique is ideal for a specific type of woman. The wide variety of techniques means that slut shaming always feels new (as morality should feel).
In the Internet age, slut shaming has become easier but no less amusing; sometimes even more amusing, as the slut can never really go "off-line." Slut shaming is ideally "sustainable," which is important to modern people.
Electronic slut shaming is not to be confused with cyberbullying, as the former is done in pursuit of morality, while the latter is for cheap thrills. Thus, any alleged side-effects of slut shaming are inadvertent. (As the Lord put it, you can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.) The shamer has a vision, generally of having the victim kneel to him and beg him to 'virtuously' marry her; while the shamee has no vision at all, unless given one by a spouse or a holy text. So, for example, if the object of slut shaming takes her own life, it is not the shamer's fault. Nor, delightfully, does the slut shaming even have to end there. Death may diminish the fun of continuing to slut-shame the deceased, but there are always other souls needing salvation.
Sport
Slut shaming is also a popular group activity. The motivations remain the same as for "individual" slut shaming, but group shaming incorporates the herd instinct, which as we know, produces some of society's most moral tendencies.
To conclude, the speaker who condemns slut shaming as being a rudimentary, unnecessary and/or violent practice, is entirely illiterate, unless he is a woman - in which case he is also a slut. Such speaker forgets that if we weren't shaming our females, we wouldn't be fighting for them also. Or perhaps vice versa.
