VFH can get pretty full, if left unchecked. Removing articles that aren't doing as well as the others keeps VFH to a manageable size. Generally speaking, Uncyclopedia tries to keep VFH around 20 articles up for vote at VFH at any given time since 20 articles is a reasonable number for someone to read in one sitting. This unfortunately means that if a lot of articles get put up in a day, a lot are going to be taken off, as well, since we won't feature them more often if more articles are put on the page. Below is listed the procedure for removing articles from VFH.

Removal Procedure

• Darwin rule: This article is the worst in relation to the one directly above and below it on the page, and it thus slated for removal. If there is a tie (ie two articles the same distance from the articles nearest them), the younger article will die. Note, however, that Darwin rule also relates to articles that have fewer votes than an article slated for removal that is younger than it. For example: if a +2 article is nestled between two +6 articles, but there are a couple of +1 articles that are older and have been protecting one another, the two +1 articles would go before the younger +2 article, giving it more time to build up enough votes to stay alive on the page.
  • Special protections for day-old nominees: Articles less than 24-hours old cannot be removed unless they've hit -3 (the usual euthanasia for all voting pages).
• Stagnation removal. An article that has received no new for votes for two weeks is slated for removal for stagnating.

Practical Example

Below is a practical example of some articles getting removed from VFH. Let's say the articles below are on VFH on December 7, 2005 and some articles need to be taken down (not an accurate representation of the articles on VFH at that time).

Anime is safe, because it's less than 24 hours old. Every other article has a chance to be taken down, however. In this example, Euroipods and Fisher Price have the worst score in relation to the other articles, with a minimum difference of four from both the above and below articles. As Euroipods is newer, and thus has had less time to accumulate votes to make a difference of this size, it is the one slated for removal (with the edit summary of "rm (+3, Darwin Rule, Level 4)"). There are older articles with lower or equal scores than it has, however. Those articles will be removed first. So in this instance, Idiocrates would be removed first (with an edit summary of "rm (+3, Darwin Rule, older clause)"), followed immediately by Baby Fu (with the edit summary of "rm (+1, Darwin Rule, older clause)"). If only one of these is removed, it would be the older one Idiocrates. When the articles are removed, they'll removed until the article count is back to 20.

QFA procedure

As a result of this constant removal from VFH, some very good feature-worthy articles get taken off VFH on a regular basis. These articles, called QFA, or "Quasi-featured" articles, have reached a certain criteria where it will be tagged for possible further consideration as a featured article sometime in the future. QFA is given to articles that have a score of at least 50% of the score of the most recent feature at the time of removal from VFH.
