Nine Inch Nails: Christmas Remixes
Happy_Birthday_Jesus: The Nine Inch Nails Christmas Remixes EP (HALO 23), is a 2006 posthumous bootleg remix extended play (EP) by the American heavy metal band Nine Inch Nails. Recorded at Nothing Studios in November 1996 by Trent Reznor, whilst he was working as what he claimed himself to be a "jizz mopper for the strip-club next door." It was released as a CD on December 1, 2006 by Interscope Records (whom NIN signed to in 1995 for a nine-album contract, but none of their albums were released in that label after disbanding in 1997).
Only 20 copies of the prototype version of the EP are known to exist. They are currently selling on eBay in the upwards of $70,000 USD. The sound is brighter (and in some cases happier) than that of the final versions of the songs on the original albums. Several songs feature bongo drumming and banjo work throughout as well as a heavier use of samples from films such as Scrooge and It's a Terrible Life. "I Want to Fuck you like a Reindeer" is a sung Homoly of retro techno significance with a joyful spiritual chorus by the south-side Chicago women's gospel choir, You Don't Know Me.
The "Hurt" remix is actually the original version of the song "Hurt" from the Downward Spiral but was replaced due to the album being delayed for release until after Christmas. A version of it is available on The Downward Spiral Deluxe Edition as track number #1,225 on disk 2. The entire album utilizes segues leading each track into the next. Includes a special 34 second long bonus track at the end of Trent masturbating to Goth Lucy on Charlie Brown's Christmas.
Critical reception of the album was strongly negative, with the majority of them panning it for its reliance on Christmas themes. The EP debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, behind James Blunt's Back to Bedlamb debut studio album.[1]
