Infoboxes are like fact sheets, or sidebars in magazine articles, designed to present a summary of the topic of the page. They present important points in an organized and quickly readable format. Infoboxes are generally made using templates, to give Uncyclopedia a consistent look. An Infobox is more visually appealing if it contains at least one image. Coming up with an image for use in an Infobox is sometimes helpful if you are having trouble finding or imagining images for your article.

The following articles are good examples of Infoboxes:

How to create an Infobox[edit]

{{Infobox}} (its page name is Template:Infobox) presents a flexible structure that is unlikely to break as things change, compared to user-written Infoboxes. For example, {{Infobox}} responds calmly to a field for which you haven't provided a value, by making the entire line go away. {{Infobox}} works well on mobile devices, whereas you probably don't want to even bother ensuring that your invention does. If {{Infobox}} should break in the future, it will affect more than your article, and someone will be by to repair it.

{{Infobox}} produces a style much like that of Wikipedia. This is boring, but now comes in various colors. For instructions, click on {{Infobox}}. By clicking on edit or view source for this page, you can see the code that produced the template in this article.

You can create a template that contains a call to {{Infobox}}. Your template is available for use in several related articles, and will give them a consistent look.

If you see an article with an attractive template, you can always cut and paste code from that page, and adapt it for use in your article.

Category:Infobox templates is a list of Infoboxes you can use or adapt to your article. If you create a template and believe it is suitable for use by other editors, simply include it in this category, by typing a line at the end of the page containing: [[Category:Infobox templates]]

Funny infoboxes[edit]

As ever, Uncyclopedia is a humor site. The reason to add an Infobox to an article is to promote a superficial resemblance to Wikipedia. (Superficial means: Until the reader thinks about the contents and realizes that they are absurd.) Infoboxes do not have to be as long as the ones in Wikipedia, and indeed don't have to continue at all beyond the point there is funny stuff to put in them.

The following Infobox contents are known not to be funny:

  • The actual truth — unless, as we mention at HTBFANJS, you are using the truth to misdirect the reader and provide a springboard to absurdity.
  • Nonsense numbers (again, see HTBFANJS), such as "Population: 300 Trillion Gazillion Infinity Plus". These are trite. "Over 9000!" is trite almost anywhere it is used.

Don't create an Uncyclopedia Infobox by copying the one from Wikipedia and "doing something" to each entry. The result will be too long and not funny enough.
