Who's with me? Sir SockySexy girls.jpg Mermaid with dolphin.jpg Tired Marilyn Monroe.jpg (talk) (stalk)Magnemite.gif Icons-flag-be.png GUN SotM UotM PMotM UotY PotM WotM 02:29, 3 February 2011

I am. After all, I was the first to complain about it. "Rename" makes it feel like I'm too incompetent to edit wikis. I am, but still - nobody has the right to make me feel that way. MegaPleb Dexter111344 Complain here 02:35, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
I know! I saw that and wondered what guy fresh out of college thought to himself "I have to make an impression on my boss, and. . .and. . .and. . .here's what I'll do! I'll change "Move" to an inaccurate but different (and different is the optimum word to put on my resume when I speak of this) wording: Rename. Couldn't they have at least been creative and called it "UnName"? Aleister 2:36 3-2-'11
Also, I think "Publish" is a bit confusing and pretentious for saving an edit to a wiki. --Mn-z 02:42, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
The same change-namer dude should change "History" to "PastThink". And edit to "Newly Created". And his boss should change his title to "Fired". Aleister 2:49 3-2-'11

Apparently this is all part of an effort to make Wikia more accessible to morons:

The Save button will be renamed Publish, which gives the button a more accurate reflection of what it really does: publish your edits to the live wiki. This should help with confusion we saw in user testing about whether saving will make an edit live, or edits will be saved as a draft for later publishing.

Not sure where that came from, but it certainly sounds like something an employed Wikian would say. And likewise, apparently people were confused about the move/rename thing. So they changed them, just like they changed 'file' to 'photo' and 'watchlist' to 'following' and who knows what else... 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 02:52, 3 February 2011

Can we request that they change 'photo' to 'picture'? It's more accurate and sounds better too. Sir SockySexy girls.jpg Mermaid with dolphin.jpg Tired Marilyn Monroe.jpg (talk) (stalk)Magnemite.gif Icons-flag-be.png GUN SotM UotM PMotM UotY PotM WotM 03:00, 3 February 2011
But what about audio files? Those aren't pictures, either... accurate would have just been leaving it at 'file'. Feh, someone on IRC threw out what looked like a system message governing the name of the 'publish', but it wasn't it, apparently. Shame.

The file to photo thing tells me that whoever named these, and whoever approved them, didn't put a whole lot of thought into it. What was this, a five minute task? Why not change "log out" to "remove yourself forthwith"? Aleister 3:21 3-2-'11
And change "Login in/create account" to "Enter thy kingdom and payth taxes to the King." MegaPleb Dexter111344 Complain here 03:29, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
If Wikia wants to be less confusing they should change the functions of the buttons too. That'd make everything a hell of a lot easier. --Black Flamingo 10:59, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
I like how one is "upload photo", but the other is "upload multiple files". It's like a madhouse, but crazy. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 17:39, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
In Wikia's defense I did think watchlist was a catalog for Timex.  Sheepicon.png
We should go over there and change all their stuff. Is there any way we can change their watchlist so it says "Wikia is gay"? And their save button to "publish this assholes!" --Black Flamingo 20:05, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
Why can't we have cool custom buttons like Illogicopedia? "Go insane" and "Babbling", now that's cool. --Wanna see a magic trick? 02:05, February 4, 2011 (UTC)
Those are easy... just change the messages... the real question is how does one change the actual buttons? There be a message for that? *shifty eyes*

1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 02:23, 4 February 2011

I take that back - the publish thing is in there, and my web browser just couldn't find it? Unless it wasn't there when I looked before, but that would be a little creepy. Apparently all we need to make it go back to normal... or make it even less normal, if we want, is an admin.

  • I'm not going to read all the comments above this. Instead I'd just like to say that changing the "move" button to "rename" does not help us be a parody of Wikipedia. Perhaps we should be a parody of Wikipedia. You know. Like in the good old days. -- Brigadier General Sir Zombiebaron 08:17, February 4, 2011 (UTC)
Also, why do I have to publish my edits? I just wanna submit them. -- Brigadier General Sir Zombiebaron 08:18, February 4, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, all right, fine... but it's bloody irritating! Everywhere else has a move button. I expect a move button, and it's also consistent with standard computing terminology - the pointers point somewhere else - it is a move. Why does wikia have to confound things?
But if you want a submit button, just turn it into a 'submit' button, and without consulting anyone, of course. You could probably do something a lot funnier than what Wikia did.

It's only an unimportant change of name. Get over it, ya fucking nerd. - Another n00b 20:19, February 4, 2011 (UTC)

Go here:

And change them to 'Penis', 'Scrotum' and... on second thought, maybe I've been hanging around Olipro too much. But anyhow, those and the like are what govern the names. You can find others by searching through Special:Allmessages. They tend to still be called what mediawiki expects them to be called. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 20:32, 4 February 2011

Change "Move" to "Avert thine eyes elsewhere", "Save" to "Yo, fucking put this shit on the site dawg", and "Delete" to "Wild party last night. Don't know what the fuck happened." MegaPleb Dexter111344 Complain here 20:35, February 4, 2011 (UTC)
Can we change them all to "delete"? I think that would be most beneficial to the wiki. --Black Flamingo 21:24, February 4, 2011 (UTC)
In fact, why don't we just change everything into "Delete"? Henceforth, delete, delete delete delete delete, delete... --Wanna see a magic trick? 01:55, February 5, 2011 (UTC)
It'd be funnier (in a more Eternal Darkness way) than a more ED-style solution of changing everything into desu or PUDDI. --Tepples 03:11, February 5, 2011 (UTC)
I LOL'ed @ the comment above. Yes it would be. DJ Mixerr 09:29, February 5, 2011 (UTC) DJMIXERR.GIF (talk)(contributions)
