Whoops! Maybe you were looking for Garbage?
The title screen when you load into a game.

Among Us is an obscure and unknown game which, in 2020, spontaneously became a "mainstream" game and amassed a large base of players and fans within a few weeks. The game has also gotten various accolades, despite it having no redeeming qualities other than popularity. That, after all, is how bad movies win Oscars

History[edit]

The idea for Among Us was first conceived when InnerSloth founder Marcus Bromander escaped from his mental asylum. Marcus spoke on the inspiration of Among Us, though it was indecipherable, due to Marcus's low mental capacity. Marcus, after escaping, was determined to make a innovative contribution to further society to a better future. Unfortunately, even with this new resolve, he failed to make any contributions to society that would be considered "innovative." After his first series of games, "Henry Stickmin", failed miserably, he eventually formed a team that would become InnerSloth. This team included himself and his friends Forest Willard and Amy Liu, who were concerned for Marcus's mental health due to his belief that they were friends. After finishing the game, Marcus was admitted to a mental hospital, where he is currently getting rehabilitated to save humanity from any more of his monstrosities such as a "Henry Stickmin Collection".

Gameplay[edit]

In Among Us, you can make rooms and become an all consuming monster. You can also play in rooms, and meet fellow "players". Among Us also has a chat function, allowing players to propagate nonsense to fellow players. In Among Us, there are 2 teams: Impostors and Crewmates. An Impostor is evil, while a Crewmate is good. The goal of a Crewmate is to finish their tasks or vote out the Impostor, and the Impostor's job is to eliminate the Crew. Impostors and Crewmates also have secondary roles they may be assigned, which include Shapeshifters who can disguise themselves, Engineers who can vent, and Scientists who can access a portable Vitals menu.

Tasks[edit]

Another aspect of Among Us is the meaningless and unengaged tasks that you do to win to the game, or, in a more realistic sense, escape the nightmare. The tasks in Among Us are as follows:

  1. Take out the fucking trash.
  2. Delete unnecessary files.
  3. Attempt to fix something without any training, prior knowledge of how it works, and without having seen it before.
  4. Arrive late to work.
  5. Do some arbitrary tasks that have no actual validity and connection to the game, or that even make sense.

In summary, Among Us is directly relevant to workplace skills.

Characters/Roles[edit]

The game has all the colours of the rainbow. Skittles even tried to sue them.

In Among Us, there are 18 characters to choose from. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Red - The titular character and hero, Red is the strong leader, always showing off his masculinity and true nature by hiding behind his fellow Crewmates and being a nuisance.
  • Blue - The brother of Red. Blue will always be in Red's shadow, due to Blue's inherited inferiority, as his natural hue is not as intense as Red's.
  • Black - A demon manifested in flesh. A black player has no heart, soul, or empathy. Make sure they're far away, and always vote them off, no matter what they say. They are pure evil.
  • Cyan - The madman. His ramblings are nonsensical, and not to be take literally. For example, Cyan often will make absurd claims saying that Red is the Impostor.
  • Green - The weirdo. Green is known for his strange antics, which include dressing up as a plant, hiding near a box and calling himself the "Box Man", and challenging anyone suspicious to a duel. As a result, they are often the second to be voted off the ship.
  • Orange - The engineer, and usually, the first killed. Orange is very quick at doing tasks and is often the first responder to a sabotage. Unfortunately, this makes them a high-priority target for the Impostors, and Orange almost never survives the first rounds.
  • Pink - The female (at least she said she was) character, whom Red always attempts to save. Also the trustworthy and good-spirited player, who could never injure a fly.
  • Purple - The antagonist of Among Us, who is almost always the impostor and Red's arch-nemesis. Purple always attempts to brutally murder Red, and essentially everyone else, though he kills Red to kill him and not merely to win the game.
  • White - A angel of pure divinity. A white player is always honest and lawful, good and kind, and every other kind of good attribute. You don't need to worry about a white player going out and dismembering your head. White players are of the highest sort, almost equivalent to Red in greatness. Speaking further on the greatness and magnificence of White would take up a entire page.
  • Yellow - The weird mean guy. He often calls meetings due to seeing not enough dead bodies, and will accuse an Impostor of venting or sabotaging for the reason of "not killing enough". This alludes to his philosophy of "kill or be killed". Due to his attitude and strange behavior, he is often voted off early.

Reception[edit]

It's true. That is how vents work.

At first, Among Us was a minor success. Though it had a community of devoted nerds that would burn you at the torture stake for hating on their game, it was still a lackluster game, as unpopular as it was unoriginal.

Then, in 2020, during the 'virus, some really famous streamer began playing. Everyone else began playing too, because individuality is out. Eventually, everybody began playing, and Among Us was a success, garnering a huge community of die-hard fans, a smorgasbord of fanart, and an ample amount of sexually suggestive images.

During an interview, InnerSloth Games Founder Marcus Bromander spoke on Among Us's success, "Without Among Us, I would had been on the street, sucking cocks till the bitches came home. Before Among Us was successful, I was a broke, disowned, fat, ugly, disgusting, repulsive, degenerative, anti-social, depressed, retarded, broke, disowned, fat, ugly, disgusting, repulsive, degenerative, anti-social, depressed, retarded pile of gobshite. My wife left me for having no money, my parents disowned me for being gay, and people called me a dickhead. I was miserable. Then, as I pondered about my life choices, the idea for Among Us struck my mind. It was a miracle."

Despite Among Us's popularity, critics mercilessly tore the game, for it's lack of originality, interesting concept, and any kind of innovation. Though this didn't do much for the games, as popularity is more powerful than criticism will ever be.
