The only thing I have against this essay is that there are some vandals who keep trying to vandalize because they get attention for it. However, there are some vandals who change if they get enough attention. An example of a repeat offender who keeps trolling because of the attention he gets is w00t, while Iraqarrack is an example of one who changed with attention. In conclusion, the WP:DENY strategy works on some trolls, but others respond positively to attention. --Sir Starnestommy Icons-flag-us.png (TalkContribsCUNCapt.) 19:36, October 31, 2007
I think we're (myself included, up 'till now) confusing vandals and trolls. Vandals don't speak, they just silently whack at wikis; trolls whine. Vandals almost never care about attention, only damage; trolls are all about the attention. IRAQATTACK! was more of a vandal than a troll (although, on IRC, it was the opposite, but he was banned pretty quickly each time) and he's made a recovery.  Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize  writings  SU&W) 19:38 Oct 31, 2007
I think the one thing we can take away from this experience is that there are no hard and fast rules for dealing with trolls/vandals and that WP:DENY is not a good reason for voting against an article.-- purple Ape (toast) (Riot Porn) 19:41, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
