UnNews talk:Obama takes credit for Oil Spill failure
First version did not read like news[edit]
It was stand-up comedy delivered by an Obama opponent. Doesn't matter how clever the cut-downs. In UnNews, you present Obama's statements, plus annoying facts in contradiction with them, and let the reader develop the joke; you don't just go, sarcastically, "What a hero." Maybe in an {{UnNews Column}}, but even then, there should be a gimmick (such as putting it in Rush Limbaugh's voice for the hidden goal of making fun of Limbaugh), not just cutting down Obama. And I don't say that as an Obama fan.
Unsubtle advocacy! I rewrote it entirely. Also, there is a source article, which I now cited; and in fact UnNews already had a story that touched on that AP wire (but mostly on another one). Spıke Ѧ 13:09 28-May-10
- I wrote this article pretty late last night, and for some reason thought it would be funny. It probably only seemed that way because I was tired. When I looked at it this morning I realized what a piece of crap I had given birth to, so sorry. I guess I'm not funny when I'm tired.Sean Cashen 18:00, May 28, 2010 (UTC)
- never Never NEVER apolgise for contributing content in good faith. The worst case short of deletion is that you have provided a fertile manure pile for some other writer to improve. Cheers! Rev. Zim (Talk) Get saved! 18:08, May 28, 2010 (UTC)
Sean, it's not that it wasn't funny; it's that you were writing to persuade, not to amuse. (Or it sounded that way.) And the Chief has a point; the article's okay now, and it wouldn't have happened without your notion to take the day's news in a new direction. Your contributions are welcome, even incomplete ones: either by filing a story that requires refinement, by adding it to Minitrue, or by just airing your ideas in the newsroom. Spıke Ѧ 18:21 28-May-10
