The Answer to The Great Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything
It is forty-two.
The question
A Policy Review Committee set up by David Cameron in 2006 AD supposed to report back before the 2009 General Election about what the answer to the Ultimate Question was, to-wit:
“ | How will the Conservative Party return to power? (if it ever returns to power!) and what is the Conservative Party for? | ” |
Ultimately, Conservative central office computers pondered on this for a long time, even though Saatchi and Saatchi said there was no need for this enquiry and that the purpose of the Conservative Party was to pay them lots of money for useless advice and if they ever did get back into power to give them (Saatchi and Saatchi) lots of public contracts and cut their taxes so that they could spend it instead of having it buy useless works of Modern Art.
Ultimately, the Committee concluded that it would take 3 million years to decide and that Saatchi and Saatchi could make something up in the meantime.
The answer
After the 3 million years was up and the Conservative Party was still out of power, it reported back saying that the answer was 42 and so another Policy Committee had to be setup to determine what was 42. Millions of years later, and just as it was about to report back, it was destroyed by the Labour Government's Revolutionary Guard.
The question to the answer answered
The question of what the 42 meant was answered when, in 2006, the Conservatives were elected to power with a majority of 42, on 42% of the vote.
