Talk:Things America Did Not Invent
Help! I am unable to make this article funny![edit]
This article is in desperate need of a comic genius to make this article actually funny. When I initially created this article, I thought I could be genuinely funny. Apparantly, I can't. And now the unregistered users are descending upon it, the way vultures peck at a dying man, guaranteeing its demise into eternal crappiness. Radioactive afikomen 07:08, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- You should be more strict to the article's premise. So remove things that Americans did invent, as jazz, rap, rock 'n roll, computers and Internet. -- herr doktor needsAgear [scream!] 00:23, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hate to be picky, but they didn't really invent the lightbulb or the Internet either. The concept of the lightbulb was being demonstrated in Universities years before Eddison, and the Internet, well CERN and Tim Bernards Lee. As an addition, however, many American believe that Henry Ford invented the car! They really believe it and refuse to be told otherwise. Yet Ford wasn't even the first person to make a car in the USA!221.66.22.33 06:00, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
You know, technically...[edit]
It should be noted that if an American has invented something simultaneously or independently (with no knowledge of the already-existing invention), then it counts as a legitimately American invention. "Things America Did Not Invent" only applies to inventions that Americans/America outright stole from other nations.

Hershey's[edit]
FYI..that's in the wrong spot. Hershey's chocolate is from Canada. 64.231.190.33 03:49, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- "From Canada" my ass. I'll even quote Wikipedia (bolding mine):
- After completing an apprenticeship to a confectioner in 1876, Milton Snavely Hershey founded a candy shop in Philadelphia, which failed six years later.[9] After trying unsuccessfully to manufacture candy in New York, Hershey returned to Pennsylvania, where he founded the Lancaster Caramel Company, whose use of fresh milk in caramels proved successful.[10] In 1900, Hershey sold his caramel company for $1,000,000[11] (about US$24,000,000 in today's currency) and began to concentrate on chocolate manufacturing.[12]
- In 1903, Hershey began construction of a chocolate plant in his hometown, Derry Church, Pennsylvania, which later came to be known as Hershey, Pennsylvania.[13] The milk chocolate bars manufactured at this plant proved successful, and the company grew rapidly thereafter.
- There, you bastard. It is American. Radioactive afikomen 06:41, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Well, we can agree on the fact that the Hershey Highway runs across the Canadian/American border, right? M.W. 20:42, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed. --Hotadmin4u69 [TALK] 06:50, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
Sports[edit]
Althought the image used shows baseball it does'nt appear on the list so either it should be added or the image removed for some apple pie. Other notes on Sports, American Football/gridiron/rugby with pillows first appeared in Canada. Baseball had the first recorded game in Canada and basketball was invented in the USA by a Canadian. I do beleive NASCAR is fully American but who would actuually consider that a sport? Hockey and golf are from Europe while Lacrosse was natives but who really cares? --76.71.47.124 01:42, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Humour: | 2 | I am sorry, I do not find this funny, and I am not even American. It seems to be just a list of things that are considered to be American, and might not be. It would be more fun if you were more outrageous and much more controversial. Some totally untrue anecdotes and facts would also help. |
Concept: | 5 | The concept has promise, but it was treated too conservatively. |
Prose and formatting: | 5 | The prose is conventional. |
Images: | 5 | The images are small and conventional. Not particularly amusing. They do go with the text. |
Miscellaneous: | 2 | It seems like a bit of a chip on the shoulder stuff. If it is, then go totally beserk. Much too restrained. |
Final Score: | 19 | Good concept. Needs work. |

Kinda like how you britfags claim to have invented electricity? Good luck trying to convince people of that over the years. You're efforts about WW2 are quite pathetic.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.37.201.139 (talk • contribs)
