The Hindenburg crash occurred in Lakehurst, NJ not NYC. Helium is not highly combustible (but hydrogen is) The Hindenburg was filled with hydrogen, not helium. "...rather than heating normal air the way that was done for normal balloons." The Hindenburg was a zeppelin (or blimp) not a "normal balloon".
