This page is just. Not. Funny. The extended lumberjack metaphor... so what?

From Pee Review[edit]

Howdy, I've worked on this article alot, and I finished it recently, because I thought a chainsaw article was necessary given how linked to it was. Unfortunately, someone thinks its 'not funny'. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but since I expect a bat score, can you spend some time telling me how to make it better?--Witt, Union leader.gif of Union member.gif UNion Entertain me* 19:54, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, this is another one that I find hard to decide how to improve on. I guess I don't really like articles written in an informal style. I see there is a reason for that style, but I just didn't really like how it was used in this article. In terms of humour, I guess it just needs some more genuinely funny jokes. Unfortunately, I can't think of any right now. Anyway, sorry for my somewhat useless analysis. Icons-flag-au.png Sir Cs1987 UOTM. t. c 13:12, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
The chainsaw was discovered, not invented, by Doctor Chainsaw (not a lumberjack). --AmericanBastard 21:14, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Do you think I should quit the writing style I used between the contents box and the N vs. S trial? It might be a bit much, and I didn't want to do the whole "the chainsaw is a loud dangerous animal spreading decapitation disease" route purposefully, because its so obvious.--Witt, Union leader.gif of Union member.gif UNion Entertain me* 23:29, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Humour: 6 Needs more jokes.
Concept: 9 This article had to be written eventually.
Prose and formatting: 6 Don't really like the style, but at least the informality isn't pointless.
Images: 7 Plenty of images, but some more funny original ones would help.
Miscellaneous: 7 What the hell is this miscellaneous section for? I can't think of anything to add here.
Final Score: 35 I guess we just need to think of more jokes for this.

In reply to Witt: this article has changed drastically since the one I read, and commented on. The prior one was just to awful to comment on. This is far better, but could use some work.

Since there are a dearth of painfully true things about chainsaws to mock, I suggest we take the route of mocking how deeply engrained in popular culture the chainsaw has become. The use of the chainsaw in games and movies as some kind of scary uber-weapon is absurd enough in itself, THAT is the amusing truth that we should strive to evoke with our jokes. The absurdity is there, let's just draw it out.

Also- no random. "The chainsaw was discovered last Tuesday by Joe who tripped over a log" is just pointless. I don't see how that kind of thing adds to ANY article, much less this one. There's a squandered opportunity to further your jokes and theme here. You have an excellent start with the comparison of Nobel's dynamite in the beginning- see how far you can develop that.

I'll add a few quotes, since the article could use them. Remove if you wish, it's your baby.

Best of luck! Demetrious 17:16, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
