Forum:Share-a-thon
So, we have a social networking button now. That's cool. Now, I'm all for sharing articles, but I don't honestly think just having a button, on its own, is going to make much of an impact. Sure, people'll post stuff to Facebook or Twitter or StumbleUpon or whatever, but then it'll be quickly drowned out by other stuff.
You know what has much more of an impact? Lots of people doing something at the same time. Which is why I propose an Uncyclopedia Share-a-thon, a date in the (relatively) distant future where Uncyclopedians of all kinds will share their favoritest pages on the site using as many social networks as possible.
This shouldn't be an active-user-only affair, either; we should advertise it to the readers as well. There are a lot more of them than there are of us, and presumably they all have their favorite articles too. Maybe, just maybe, if we pick a single day to spam Uncyclopedia as far and wide as possible, we might get noticed. Somehow.
I'm bringing this up now because I want this to happen somewhat far in the future, when all this maintenance stuff has died down and so that way as many people as possible can get involved. (I encourage people to use automated services to tweet or facebook or whatever if they won't be around on that day.) My question is, when should we do it? – Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize • writings • SU&W) 21:24 Jun 29, 2011
- This is a FABULOUS IDEA! If we all go nuts during one or two days and as many users as possible share links to a couple great articles on tons of platforms...it could be a GREAT way to get flash exposure!!!! --ShabiDOO 21:57, June 29, 2011 (UTC)
Our image
This will probably change our image, which is a good thing. Sadly, people think of us as "that wiki that is obsessed about Oscar Wilde, Captain Obvious, kitten huffing, Steve Ballmer, and Grues". And we want to get rid of that image. Even though the Wilde quotes have been phased out, tons of IP's and new users still refer to them. At one point, I even once thought of making "UnNews:Captain Obvious dead". How about we pick a whole bunch of articles to represent Uncyclopedia to change our image into an interactive parody wiki (which we really are). -- Lollipop - 22:21, 29 June 2011
- I don't think most of us consider any of those our favorite articles (except maybe Kip the Dip), so I can't see this as a concern. – Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize • writings • SU&W) 22:32 Jun 29, 2011
- That's the point. I don't find Wilde nor Obvious funny at all. Those articles should be put in the vaults. In the past. We need a new image for ourselves. And I think the Share-a-thon wil help us remove the in-jokey trends and be known as "the website that's funny and looks like Wikipedia". -- Lollipop - 00:20, 30 June 2011
What would make this even better
Is if everyone shared a "That time I was almost raped by..." article. That way, we'd be associated as the rape encyclopedia! And who doesn't want that? It's Mrthejazz... a case not yet solved. 02:46, June 30, 2011 (UTC)
- You mean the 'my sojourn' series? That is much better than all the Oscar Wilde in-jokey crap. That is our new image. We'll be famous!
We might even get mentioned in the Family Circus:

Would this be a bad time to mention
The share thing was a prototype that I just tacked on the vector skin because people were already testing that, and I just forgot to take it off when changing the actual skin? ~ 04:24, 30 June 2011
- Because it still doesn't entirely work.

- Would this be a bad time to mention that I don't like Kraft Dinner? -- Lollipop - 04:36, 30 June 2011
- Would this be an inappropriate time for ham? – Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize • writings • SU&W) 04:59 Jun 30, 2011
