This page explains how to close VFH nominations and feature or fail nominated articles. This can be done either by hand or semi-automatically with the VFHcloser gadget. To enable VFHcloser, check the box labeled "Add buttons on VFH nomination pages to facilitate closing nominations and featuring articles" in your preferences. If you normally sign with three tildes instead of four, add threetildes = 1; to your common.js page.

By hand[edit]

Featuring[edit]

  1. Add the following to the bottom of the nomination page:

After |sig= add your full signature (in most cases this will be the usual four tildes). After |comment= you may add an optional comment.
  2. Click on the "Click to feature this article" link on the yellow box that's now at the bottom of the page. That will take you to editing Template:Featuredarticle. Here you will see something like:

    Replace:

    • Image.jpg with the name of the first image in the article you're featuring (no File: prefix)
    • Article with the name of the article
    • Article text text text with the first few (roughly 2 or 3) paragraphs of the article (link its name at the beginning and remove any <ref> tags)
    • Article 2|Article 3|Article 4 with Article|Article 2|Article 3 (Article is the name of the previous featured article, and Articles 2-4 are the ones featured before that)
    • Image2.jpg with Image.jpg (this is the first image from the previous featured article)
    • Article 2 with Article
    • Article 2 something something something with the first paragraph of Article text text text

    Save the page.

  3. Copy the text after "Feature code:". Put this at the bottom of the article and remove VFH if it is present.
  4. If the article is not already protected, semiprotect it with the reason "Featured article" (available on the dropdown), leaving the expiry set to "infinite".

Failing[edit]

  1. Add the following to the bottom of the nomination page:

After |sig= add your full signature. After |comment= you may add an optional comment.

  2. Remove any instances of VFH from the article.

With VFHcloser[edit]

  1. Click on the green button labeled "Feature this article" underneath the vote box.
  2. A green popup will appear with three text boxes. Fill them in as follows:

    • Third box (optional): comment when featuring, which will appear at the bottom of the nomination page
  3. Click the button underneath the text boxes labeled "Feature now". The page will reload automatically, and you will see that the nomination is closed. You do not need to do any further work.

  2. A red popup will appear with one text box. Add a comment to the text box if you want to leave one.
