South Asia[edit]

Pakistan and Afghanistan are within South Asia(Indian subcontinent/sub Himalayan region) not West Asia as per UN. They are ethno-linguistically, genetically, culturally and geographically South Asian. These regions were part of Greater Indian/South Asian region in recent(as late as 1947) and ancient history. Just because they are Muslims doesn't mean they should be clubbed together with West Asians. They don't speak Arabic, majority speaks Indo-Aryan or Iranian languages.

Even Iran is sometimes considered South Asian probably because they speak Indo-Iranian(not Arabic) and were culturally similar in Ancient Times.
