From Pee Review[edit]
I thought doing an Uncyclopedia entry on Thomas Pynchon would actually be quite easy, since the penchant for nonsensical ramblings would seem to fit in well with the Uncyclopedia oeuvre. And yet, I hit a brick wall pretty fast, and I find myself struggling for an "angle" with which to go about this piece. Any ideas or additions would be greatly appreciated. - Haha, this is a good piece. Could use some development but so could my abs. I'm embarrassed to say I have never read Gravity's Rainbow so I am not competent to edit Pynchon except in terms of structure. I encourage you to keep up on the piece, though.----OEJ 23:54, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I thank you for the words, in any case. I think it's actuallly my contempt for Pynchon's writing style whch is crippling me from bringing the proper amount of humor into the piece, as "what an ass" makes a less-than-wonderful article. Here, to give you an example, this is a selection from his newest novel (note the usage of the word novel) Against The Day:
- "Time moves on but one axis," advised Dr. Blope, "past to future - the only turnings possible being turns of a hundred and eighty degrees. In the Quaternions, a ninety degree direction would correspond to an additional axis whose unit is √-1. A turn through any other angle would require for its unit a complex number." "Yet mappings in which a linear axis becomes curviliniar - functions of a complex variable such as w=e2, where a straight line in the z-plane maps to a circle in the w-plane," said Dr. Rao.
This, for over a thousand pages, is why nobody ever finishes one of the man's books. Lemon. 00:19, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- Made another edit. Unless someone's got any other ideas on what needs to be added (I suppose an additional photo couldn't hurt), I believe I'm ready to declare this one Ready to leave the Pee Review. What say you? Lemon. 23:21, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks!--Lemon.
- Thought this was purely comedic, but looking here it seems you actually dislike the man because, apparently, you can't understand his sentences. They are t3h too long for you, or something, I guess. Well I s'pose humor comes from all the wrong places.
- Holy shit, I fucking hate white people who wear African dresses, and they're NOT the kind of people who like Gravity's Rainbow. They're not the kind of people who would ever even read that book. Jesus Christ, get it right, suckers.
