- Because spelling it out makes it unfunny. For instance:
- A horse walks into a bar. The barman asks "Why the long face".
- Is funnier than:
- A horse with a long face, because horses have long faces, walks into a bar. The barman, noticing the horse has a long face, asks "Why the long face?"
