There. I didn't see anyone else touching the article, and I didn't get any warnings about not doing so myself, so I went ahead and took the liberty of performing a massive re-write. It still needs some work, but I think it's lightyears ahead of what we had. Need to figure out some images for it, though. -Bahustard 00:45, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

How is this an Uncyclopedia In-Joke? ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 09:25, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

I stuck it on there because ~half the article references other Uncyclopedia memes, specifically the overuse of quotations. If it's meant for articles that are subjects of self-reference, feel free to pull the category tag. --Bahustard 19:04, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
Okay, point taken. --Bahustard 19:15, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Rewrite[edit]

Ack, I just got back here, and it's far worse than it was. Sure, the "Danes" wasn't the funniest joke, but you took out half the good stuff ("Drop down, increase speed, reverse direction!" made me crack up the first time I saw it -- it's a Futurama ref). I'm going to merge the versions, cherry picking the best from both. -- Rei 21:56, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Okay, so it goes. I kinda liked some of my race descriptions better, but most of them (say, the Slylandro) really don't fit with a merged version. --Bahustard 18:49, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
However, for the record, I'm not sure if I understand the distinction between random 'alien races annoyed at game portrayals' nonsense and random 'Uncyclopedia destroyed the universe' nonsense. --Bahustard 18:57, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
It's pretty simple. If you start talking about things that have absolutely nothing to do with the race, you're saying random nonsense. "Dave Chapelle" has absolutely nothing to do with the Supox, and his catchphrases even less to do with them. "Winston Churchil" has absolutely nothing to do with the Thraddash. The pkunk have absolutely nothing to do with Yakov Smirnov, and even less to do with worn Soviet Russia jokes. It's random nonsense. When chunks of your descriptions can be interchanged between species without any discernable effect, something is wrong.
Note that doesn't meant that referring to pop culture is "random nonsense". For example, the Yehat inexplicably speak with an Australian accent, so it's perfectly reasonable to jest that they're voiced by, say, Steve Irwin. It's not an interchangable joke. The Orz are incomprehensible, so it's perfectly reasonable to say that their dialogue was written by a weirdo writer. Etc. You don't want to just spout out random phrases -- you want to parody the actual elements of the game with what you write. -- Rei 05:21, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
While I will grant that a healthy chunk of what I put in was interchangable, the bulk of it was designed to tie into the races in *some* way, even if it was somewhat stretched. Thraddash tied into Churchill for their bloody single-mindedness to fight, Spathi show incredible cowardice in the face of danger, and the Mycon... sounded like Daleks when I first started typing them out. However, if everything was coming across as interchangable, I apparently reached too far. Lessons learned, notes made to wait for response next time, returned to next article. Thanks for taking the time to actually sift, instead of just reverting, at least. --Bahustard 06:29, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
I think the yehat speak with a Scottish accent. 212.149.248.182 13:04, 10 December 2006 (UTC) --IP
