Talk:RTFM
I added a real-world example that I pulled on some dude I know. I shit you not, this is real and not staged. --Codename46
Is there any way to make the IRC chat look nicer? I am new to wiki formatting, and the only way I could figure out to keep it all from being on the same line was to double space --24.222.9.242 13:17, 9 Mar 2005 (EST)
yeah, you can use simple HTML, like the br command. --PantsMacKenzie 13:41, 9 Mar 2005 (EST)
Are you sure that RTFM doesn't mean Real Toys For Men? I mean, look at all the sporting goods and auto parts stores! --209.30.87.59 22:10, 10 Mar 2005 (EST)Some guy from a distance
The Example[edit]
- I think the current version:
miket65> how do i change the color of links redjl> omg rtfm n00b miket65> ok miket65> how do i change the color of links redjl> RTFM miket65> HOW CAN I CHANGE THE COLOR OF LINKS miket65> HOW CAN I CHANGE THE COLOR OF LINKS redjl> Message recieved. Sending you the information over the Cyber-Web. miket65> Thanks, good buddy! redjl> You are welcome, Internet pal!
is funnier, it's very dry sarcasm. What's the other people think?--Chronarion 19:55, 11 Mar 2005 (EST)
- When I wrote it originally, I intended there to be a 'cliffhanger' ending, where there is a misunderstanding between redjl and miket65 because redjl is using the real definition of RTFM and miket65 is interpreting it as my fake one. redjl is getting upset at mike, but mike's attempt to do what he thinks redjl is asking him to do only makes redjl more mad. Someone added the last three lines, and when I saw the talk on the discussion page I assumed that the person who added this did not know the true meaning of RTFM and thought it was somthing I made up. I thought that the last three lines took away from the rest of the example, adding only sillyness. If you guys find it funnier this way, then keep it, I just wanted to explain myself. --Paulgb 21:29, 11 Mar 2005 (EST)
Here is the way I originally intended on it being:
miket65> how do i change the color of links redjl> omg rtfm n00b miket65> ok miket65> how do i change the color of links redjl> RTFM miket65> HOW CAN I CHANGE THE COLOR OF LINKS miket65> HOW CAN I CHANGE THE COLOR OF LINKS
I liked it much better before the most recent revision. (anonymous comment by 24.117.52.109)
Personally I think that the example in this article is one of the funniest things on this site. I laugh just thinking about it. --Savethemooses 18:26, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)
I just really liked the line "You are welcome, internet pal!" It makes it really clear we're being stupid :-P --Chronarion 23:17, 28 Mar 2005 (EST)
Also this article is meant to express the "true meaning" of RTFM, so obviously in the example it should work out well in the end.
Nice one[edit]
This is the best article I have red in uncyclopedia until now :). Thue 11:36, 14 May 2005 (EDT)
SNOT[edit]
I shot a bunch of snot out my nose I laughed so hard. Two thumbs up! --Blat-Smacker 15:43, 31 May 2005 (EDT)
Very Nice[edit]
I thought the idea, in general was very well done. Way to go! :) If you like, I added two of my own. Kma which took some good solid thinking and MSN which might need some more jokes besides, but right now, I left it nice and simple.
PunMan 22:35, 31 May 2005 (EDT) Yup, nice one. :D 88.110.128.54 23:31, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
