Talk:Iceland
An Idea[edit]
Why not add these as notes on the page rather than here? Also you forgot to mention, Iceland abolished money as they hadn't any left after 2009. --RomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate) 18:06, November 25, 2011 (UTC)
- Notes? Example? Also, not a bad hugmynd, adding something about the banking crisis. I think I'll athuga þetta. We do already nefnum Icesave, auðvitað. ;) -- Rei 03:25, November 27, 2011 (UTC)
An other Idea.[edit]
I was wondering if the author could stick a soft hyphen somewhere into the native_name parameter in the infobox? Just copy & paste this:

The name is sticking out of the side of the box. I'd do it myself, but I don't speak Icelandic, so I dunno where to hyphenate. (Also, an explanation of the joke might help. Unless it wouldn't. :) ~ Mon, Nov 28 '11 16:20 (UTC)
- Done. Also, it's a run-on sentence (a bit of a joke about the length of some Icelandic words): "Icelandwhichisdamncoldinthewinterwellnotthatcoldbutthetouristscomplain". -- Rei 20:24, November 28, 2011 (UTC)
- Excellent. I figured that's what it was, but as I didn't know where to separate the words, Google Translate was utterly non-plussed. ~ Thu, Dec 1 '11 13:05 (UTC)
- Hehe, yeah, Google does have its limitations. Picture how often people right things like "Reeeeallly?" or "Soooooo...." Google can't handle things like that at all, and we write things like that in Icelandic too ;) -- Rei 17:47, December 1, 2011 (UTC)
- Gotta give Google credit for trying. Someday, if it tries hard enough, it might become a real boy! ~ Thu, Dec 1 '11 18:01 (UTC)

Reverts[edit]
For the people who keep reverting: Vigdís Hauksdóttir is our Sarah Palin - a major politician regularly saying things so dumb they're funny. Would you prevent an article on America from mentioning Palin?
"Strax er teygjanlegt hugtak" ("'Immediately' is a flexible concept") is one of her most famous, an excuse for not doing something they promised they'd do immediately (and in fact, doing just the opposite). It's our equivalent of Clinton's "It depends on what the meaning of the words 'is' is.", and was a wide source of jokes here. In a section on Icelandic language, how can one *not* mention that?
The Malta one was another one of her more famous gems, insisting that Malta wasn't a nation (also she insisted that parts of Europe were struggling with famine in the same interview). In American terms, it'd be as if Palin suggested that Jamaica wasn't a country and Canada was in famine.
