From Pee Review[edit]

I just got this from NRV and tried to save it, give it some latin lover hotness. Estás rico? I need your opinion corazón.--DAME :: FoxyBabe :: TALK 20:32, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Humour: 3 It seems like alot of the jokes just rest on a "super-sexy ugly man" crutch. Not very funny. And is the incorrect prose supposed to be a sort of continuous joke?
Concept: 4 Its a little too like the real Don Juan story. That could be funny, but maybe just get a new angle.
Prose and formatting: 3 "The dames cannot resist to his labia," Seriously? And the untranslated Ricky Martin song doesn't help any. Me parece como tradujiste este articulo usando Google Translator o algo como este.
Images: 7 I liked the images, and they had some good captions attached to them.
Miscellaneous: 8 Its about time there was an article on El Don Juan.
Final Score: 25 I suppose this could have potential, but rework it into good English and get a new angle first.

Well, the thing about the prose: I'm not a native english speaker. I checked this text on a spell check program, but maybe isn't flowing just right. That's why i put it in here, so you guys can help me to fix it properly. I still think the joke about a bad looking guy, just being sexy because he is latin, is funny. I'm from a country where everybody thinks people are sex-machines simply from the fact they were born here. And yes, it is on Latin America. In fact, those pictures I posted are from famous celebrities around here. The Ricky Martin song, well don't blame me, it is bad for itself, I just put the real lyrics, in spanish, because well, Don Juan would have pronounced them that way. Thank you for reviewing, it was helpful. --DAME :: FoxyBabe :: TALK 13:26, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

  • You know, this brings up a chronic issue: there have been quite a few language-challenged folks who contribute good ideas in bad English. While there are alternate-language Uncyclopedias, people who contribute interesting English-language articles might be offered some help. I'll have a look at Don Juan myself, but maybe there could be a formal way for users to solicit help specifically to get English-as-a-second-language articles into polished English form?----OEJ 19:15, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
If I remember it right, it is or was stated in reviewing guidelines that grammar and spelling issues should be simply corrected, not commented. Believe me, a spell/grammarcheck wouldn't hurt her feelings that much. :) -- herr doktor needsAscalpel Rocket.gif [scream!] 19:36, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I've done a quick rewrite. The difficulty is of course the idiom -- one has to take a reasonable guess at some of the figures of speech. If FoxyBabe feels any part of my changes are inappropriate or mistaken then of course she can correct them. ----OEJ 20:20, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the grammar checking One-eyed Jack. The article is flowing a lot better. In fact I was waiting for someone to help me with that. About the Uncyclopedia in my first language, well it sucks so badly... It sucks a lot more than my English, and there's nothing I can do there to help it, a lost case I would say. But I'm trying to improve my English grammar, and with this kind of help you gave me, it will be a lot easier. --DAME :: FoxyBabe :: TALK 20:44, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Now I guess she deserves a second chance. I'm not doing it myself because she's my real-life girlfriend (oh!). -- herr doktor needsAscalpel Rocket.gif [scream!] 20:53, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Sorry I didn't think of doing a grammar check first Foxy, really my first time doing a PeeReview (and I was just so nervous let me tell you.) I could help traduces si necessitas.

Doc Love, you have nothing to apologize for. The Pee Guidelines say that you might "help out if you can" but it's beyond the call of duty to do a full rewrite on every piece as part of your review. One or two spelling corrections are reasonable, but the main point is to give the author some feedback. Glad to have you working on the Pee. ----OEJ 00:59, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
