Talk:2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine
Would it be better to instead make an article on the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine like Wikipedia?
This UnNews was supposed to just be a quick joke about this being the basis for World War 3, but after the inclusion that Russian troops are using Tinder to get some Ukrainian booty is just too funny and well, it's the real news. OnePunch 13:24, 25-Feb-22
- This is a blog, not an UnNews!
- Yes, an article to parallel Wikipedia's would be a good idea, and you are halfway there (though the Russian Army is only halfway there). Keep in mind that we are for original comedy and not a catalog of funny things that happened in the real world. Add value (you did on Chernobyl). Spıke 🎙️13:32 25-Feb-22
Time and tenses[edit]
- You might as well move this to mainspace with a Construction tag.
- Write timelessly, not "an ongoing military conflict". By the time you get this how you want it, Russia or Ukraine will have gotten their enemy the way it wants it. Imagine you are a few months in the future — as your readers will be.
- Don't stack {{Wikipedia}} right under the initial photo (or, worse still, over it). Use it somewhere you have solid text. Move photos from the right side to the left side if necessary for balance. Spıke 🎙️00:11 26-Feb-22
- It started off as "an ongoing" so I changed it to "was" as per your above statement, then OculusWild changed it back to "ongoing". OnePunch 00:30, 27-Feb-22
- Well, OculusWild should take the long view. He means to have the page be correct right now, but that assumes someone's going to keep it up-to-date. Perhaps a safe assumption on this page? If you move on to other projects and he doesn't maintain it, we have an "encyclopedia article" that describes the situation as of late February. Spıke 🎙️01:22 27-Feb-22
- I'll change it back.--OculusWild (talk) 01:54, 27 February 2022 (UTC)
- By the way, Wikipedia has WP:ASOF that flags dated statements for future updating. Better yet, I edited it to avoid "to be" entirely and future-proof the lead sentence. (talk) 05:18, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
- Excellent solution, Dark Web, White Hat. Also, I cringed when I saw you were going to translate Lavrov's "Understand?" (having recently reveted Brogo13 for spelling out "casus belli") but a hover note is the perfect way. Spıke 🎙️13:53 28-Feb-22

Anonymous takes down RT[edit]
OnePunch, I tightened this section up a little, but it remains weak, mostly reporting an amusing news item where all the amusement came from the news item. In fact, Russia did not have to worry about foreign intervention; the large amount of handwringing and inaction from foreign countries is both more notable and more funny. Your proposed next attack by Anonymous is idle fanfiction, not based on anything, that doesn't make any point, and Russians (even bears) drunk on vodka is a trite stereotype. Spıke 🎙️13:51 28-Feb-22
- I am unable to edit the page now as Romartus has made it that only Autoconfirmed users can (which I thought I was?). Anyway, I have made a better joke for the punchline. I will write it here and then you can mince the words/rewrite it to your pleasing.
- "For their second attack, Anonymous planned on attacking drunk on vodka brown bears with their keyboards, but later scrapped this idea as all flights into Russia have been cancelled. Instead, they plan on hacking into Russian radio stations and playing The Beatles song "Back in the USSR", which ironically predicted the Russian troops using Tinder to find Ukrainian girls since they make you "sing and shout" and possibly Putin's end goal. Baffling. Romartus correctly restricted the Featured Article to autoconfirmed only, no expiration; but User Rights Management shows me you are 'Implicit member of: Autoconfirmed users"'. This is a job for Llwy-ar-lawr. Spıke 🎙️13:53 1-Mar-22
I am unbaffled, having carried over (some of) your edit. You can't edit the article because, appearing currently on the main page, it receives cascading protection from the FA template. Never mind, Llwy. Spıke 🎙️18:38 1-Mar-22
