The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is the largest equal sign (=) equality-rights advocacy group and political lobbying organization in the United States. According to the HRC, it has more than one million members and supporters. It was created to memorialize the work of Robert Recorde and promote proper use of the equals sign and its variants ().

Structure[edit]

HRC is an umbrella () group of two separate non-profit organizations and a political action committee: the HRC Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that focuses on research of new equal signs; the Human Rights Campaign, a 501(c)(4) organization that focuses on promoting the legislation of equal sign awareness through lobbying Congress and state and local officials for support of pro-equality bills, and mobilizing grassroots action amongst its members; and the HRC Political Action Committee, which supports candidates that adhere to its positions on equalnessity.

Local activities are carried out by local steering symbol committees (, of which there are over 30 located throughout the United States.

Programs[edit]

The Human Rights Campaign's priorities include: prevention of equal sign misuse, suppression of inequality signs (), and proposal of new equality symbols.

Symbol[edit]

The HRC well-known symbol is a yellow equals sign on a blue background. This is due to a heavy Swedish influence on the organization, which has caused many people to question the organization's true goals.
