Well I am asking a request for the HTML-Creaters (staff I guess). Can you guys create a new tag called "Marquee"? I made the section below for its attributes:

Attributes

  • Align: Uses the same syntax as the img tag.
  • Behavior: Allows the user to set the behavior of the marquee to one of three different types:
    • Scroll - DEFAULT. Scrolls the text from right-to-left, and restarts at the right side of the marquee when it has reached the left side.
    • Slide - Deprecated
    • Alternate - Text 'bounces' from the left side of the box to the right side.
<marquee behavior="alternate">This text will bounce from left to right</marquee>
  • Bgcolor: Sets the background color of the marquee.
<marquee bgcolor="blue">This marquee's background color will be blue.</marquee>
  • Direction: Sets the direction of the marquee box to either left-to-right or right-to-left. Later browsers added support for a movie credit style bottom-up and top-down values.
<marquee direction="right">This text will scroll from left to right.</marquee>
  • Height: This sets how tall the marquee should be.
<marquee height="20px">The height of this marquee is twenty pixels.</marquee>
  • Width: This sets how wide the marquee should be.
<marquee width="100px">This marquee is only a hundred pixels wide!</marquee>
  • Loop: This sets how many times the marquee should 'Loop' its text.
<marquee loop="2">You will only see this text twice before it stops playing.</marquee>
  • Scrollamount: This is how many pixels the text moves between 'frames', in pixels.
<marquee scrollamount="10">This text will move ten pixels per 'frame'</marquee>
  • Scrolldelay: This sets the amount of time, in milliseconds, between 'frames'.
<marquee scrolldelay="1000">This would be so slow, you'd get no sense of animation.</marquee>
<marquee scrolldelay="1">This would be so fast, you couldn't see it!</marquee>

In case you don't get me, go look here.

Preety Please? It would replace images that have moving text. (and you can put any text too!!!!!!!)--¶ist 03:57, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

You need to ask those people who build MediaWiki because the list of allowable HTML tags seems to be hard-coded (search for function removeHTMLtags).   nyp 04:24, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Ooh, do I have the honor of being the first to point out that marquee tags are fucking ugly and unnecessary? And also, did you completely skip over this: "It must be noted that the following proprietary tag is deprecated and use of it goes against the advice of the W3C. The following information is for encyclopedic purposes and should not be used on new web pages."?  Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize  writings  SU&W) 05:34 Apr 05, 2008

Oh c'mon... who cares if there are "fucking ugly and unnecessary?"--¶ist 05:37, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Me-waAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!
Probably the people you'd be inconveniencing to put this new tag in. If it's even possible to do with an extension. Which I doubt. And I hardly think the MediaWiki developers are going to spend their time putting in a depreciated, essentially useless HTML tag. And besides, it's just plain true: The marquee tag is like a Furby. It doesn't stop moving when you want it to, it's annoying, it's unnecessary, and it's ugly. Except Furbies make cute sounds. Although not when you set them on fire and toss them down a laundry chute. Which I wouldn't recommend, unless you want all your laundry on fire.  Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize  writings  SU&W) 05:43 Apr 05, 2008

Oh Well.... I was just asking.... cause it looked cool..... & there would have been a self-reference Marquee article.... well to bad for me, then *tears* "But if only I had the power to create tags..."--¶ist 05:52, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
But wait! There is but one source of power left, one last hope for you and your dream! Meet the wonders of... the GIF!  Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize  writings  SU&W) 06:04 Apr 05, 2008
This whole marquee idea was when I saw Neopets userpages, shops, petpages, etc. And I wanted to see it here, on Uncyclopedia!!!! WAAAAAA!!!--¶ist 06:29, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
The Doctor is right. You should just make an animated gif. Also, you shouldn't bother. Animated gifs are a tool of the devil. He prefers wrecking screws with a flathead screwdriver that's both too thin and too narrow for the screw, but he'll settle for an animated gif. Other than that, welcome to Uncyclopedia. You'll eventually get the hang of making pages that don't set off epileptics. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 08:34, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
I have no clue how to upload an animated gif, but I know how to upload.--¶ist 15:36, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Uploading an animated gif, I assume, is the same as any other picture. Majik! Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 15:43, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Marquees are the inventions of satan himself. They make text hard to read, and overall, are ameteurish, and suck. Not even the blink tag is as bad as the marquee tag. Plus it only works on IE and Opera. The only place they belong is on Times Square and on news channels, not on web pages. Instant flipping methods with javascript are much cleaner and better. If you're going to place a marquee, you might as well make the colour scheme orange on red, with size 200% text and frequent missspellings and line breaks, plus MS Paint manipulated photos. ~ Tophatsig.png

Well you can say that this website is made by Satan himself because it uses frames, marquees, Flash, broken HTML, site counter(!), popups, TABLES EVERYWHERE, and if you check the source for the main page, it even tries to do a snow effect! The only thing that's missing is the blinking! Hell ugly!!   nyp 07:43, Sunday 06 April 2008
That is a poorly designed page. Fairly poor. It looks like something made at the turn of this century. It's not the worst I've seen, but it's shit compared to something even ameteur-made like HaikuOS's main page, or standard Monobook that you see on this site. The marquee tag is a relic of the 90s, actually invented by Microsoft, and only supported by IE and Opera (Opera because IE does it and it doesn't want to misrender). ~ Tophatsig.png 6/04/2008 @ 17:07
Here's the part where I refer you to http://webpagesthatsuck.com.  Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize  writings  SU&W) 17:33 Apr 06, 2008
The blink tag skinks because it does'nt do anything. (See? Nothing.)--¶ist 15:40, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Isn't there already a way to do this with a <span> tag with a certain set of style attributes? --Sir Starnestommy Icons-flag-us.png (TalkContribsCUN) 20:54, Apr. 6, 2008

Praise FSM, I don't think so.  Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize  writings  SU&W) 20:57 Apr 06, 2008
Goddammit Starnes, you're right. At least, you will be soon. For now, however, it doesn't seem as though the marquee has infected the <span> tag just yet.  Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize  writings  SU&W) 21:19 Apr 06, 2008
But marquee is awesome! It'd be possible to add a JS marquee that works, but the only place it would be good for is a scrolling UnNews headline bit, perhaps. Spang talk 22:33, 06 Apr 2008

Oh, shit! Marquees are so depressingly bad that I've turned Goth. Thanks a lot, ¶ist! Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 23:24, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm gonna need another site to cheer me up after that one... how about this one, to which I accredit everything good that I've done on this site.(which, admittedly, probably isn't very much) - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon Baloon.gif(Tick Tock) (Contribs) 00:34, Apr 11
Don't sell yourself short. When people think "the internet", they think "zombo.com". Your site is the amazon.com of the internet. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 05:06, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Goth? I want it to exist.--The Very Neopian 00:25, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Pity. The 'scrolling UnNews headline bit' is an awesome idea. I am looking forard to it.--Fallopian 23:10, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Dear Jerks

If you are the sort of person who thinks that marquees are a good idea, why don't you move yourself over to Encyclopedia Dramatica and save us all the trouble. Yours in fun hating, --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 02:43, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

...You came back from hibernation to put down some new user with ideas that s/he thought were positive, and that was trying to help the site? I know we try to bite our noobs, but seriously... - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon Baloon.gif(Tick Tock) (Contribs) 02:54, Apr 19
...You greet a user back from hibernation with a message like that?  Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize  writings  SU&W) 02:56 Apr 19, 2008
...You talk to ops(I'm a BIG MAN!) like that? - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon Baloon.gif(Tick Tock) (Contribs) 03:00, Apr 19
It's not that I'm coming back from hibernation so much as that I regularly check my talk page for changes and troll the forums. Marquee simply happens to be a tag that I really hate, so much so that it warranted saying something spiteful. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 23:06, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Down with marquee, I say. -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb.png (talk to me)
The use of the term "troll" amuses me.~~ Sir Ljlego, GUN  [talk] 01:15, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Wouldn't lurk be more accurate? VGD >=3 17:51, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
I chose troll because my intent was to imply that I toss out my metaphorical net of interest, drag it about a bit and then reel it in to see what's caught my attention. This is, in fact, going back to the etymological roots of the modern Internet term "troll". --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 23:16, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
You're a cheeseball, you know that? A great big ball of cheese and fluff and wuv.~~ Sir Ljlego, GUN  [talk] 00:27, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Doesn't fluff get in the way of properly consuming cheese, and doesn't cheese tend to make fluff fairly greasy? VGD >=3 20:40, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

HA! You guys may not like this idea, but you will love the DISPLAYTITLE magic word idea!!!!!!
