Forum:Huffing "unused" images
Why do we do it? The current version of a page is sometimes not the best version of an article, and a "unused" image might have been used in the past in that better version. This counts especially with FA articles, but often versions in the page history are very different to the current version, and if we huff all the unused images we are loosing part of the record of the past, and the ability to revert to that, or reuse the images, or whatever. There are various other reasons to keep old images around which I will not go on about, but I have never understood why we get rid of them just because they are not being used on the current version of a page.
I'm not saying we should stop deleting all unused images. Sure if someone cares, and wants it gone, and it's not used anywhere then who cares... huff it, but... Other than that, is there a reason to huff unused images? MrN Fork you! 18:25, Mar 14

- Huffing the unused, no reason at all. Just today I saved lots of unused images, and just put one on a Kate Winslet page that a user wanted huffed. Why do they get huffed? Beats me. (For users who may not know, you can go into "Special pages" near the bottom of the navigation bar, and there are all kind of fun things, including "Unused photos". Look at them 500 at a time and lots of them are usuable, it just takes the interest to put them on some pages.) Aleister 19:57 14-3-'12
- Idea! Ding ding ding ding! How about everybody look at the unused images, then use them as inspiration for articles to write? 22:55, 03/14/2012
