Since the changeover to our new Main Page, I've been noticing time and again that the vast majority of Featured Image captions are too small for the new format. I've been doing a little thinking about how to fix this and I think the best solution is to put the captions in a separate unprotected page and put an "edit caption" link on the front page. --Sir gwax (talk) 21:46, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- We could also have a one time vote for new captions page. Or maybe just a work on captions page. ---Rev. Isra (talk) 22:54, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with gwax, and probably with Isra... despite the fact that i didn't understand a word he said. It's been hard for me to nominate images on VFP, I see a really good one, but then I can't think of a good enough caption to go along with it. not only would this provide an adequately lengthed caption for each featured image, but it'd also help lower the pressure on potential nominators. t o m p k i n s blah. ﺞوﻦ וףה ՃՄ ண்ஸ ފއހ วอฏม +տ trade websites 23:00, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- If you wanted to have them editable by anyone, you could (possibly, not sure if it would work on a choose/option) create pages like File:Imagenamehere.jpg/FPcaption and have them semi-automatically included and semi-automatically linked (eg, have a sub template of FI {{metaFI|Imagenamehere.jpg|size=150px}} with contents [[{{{1}}}|{{{size}}}|thumb|{{{{{1}}}}/FPcaption}}]]. Maybe. --Splaka 04:55, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
If the problem is just that the caption is too small for the box, why not use a smaller box (one column wide instead of two) like http://uncyclopedia.org/index.php?title=Main_Page_%28editable%29&oldid=639772 ? --Carlb 12:37, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
