Attack on Titan (Japanese: 進撃の巨人, Hepburn: Shingeki no Kyojin, lit. Attack of the Huge People) is a Japanese anime/manga series by Hajime Isayama (lit. Start Remonstrating Mountains). The story follows Eren Yeager, a boy who, after his mother is killed by a Titan, vows revenge upon the entire Titan race.

Plot[edit]

The series begins in the year 845 with Eren Yeager, a boy who lives in the Shiganshina District of Wall Maria, one of the three walls protecting humanity from the human-eating Titans. They live peacefully until the Colossal Titan looks over the wall, causing panic among the inhabitants. The Colossal Titan creates a hole in the wall, allowing other Titans to rush in. The Titans kill many people and Eren's mother is eaten by a Smiling Titan. Witnessing this, Eren vows revenge on the Titans. Eren and childhood friends Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert escape on a boat just before the Armored Titan charges through the wall connecting Shiganshina to Wall Maria. After having settled down in Wall Rose, the second wall, Eren, Mikasa, and Armin enlist in the military to carry out Eren's genocidal desires.

In the year 850, the Trost District inside of Wall Maria is attacked once again by the Colossal Titan. While defending the district, Eren discovers that he can transform into an Attack Titan. His transformation allowing him to level up to level 5, Eren unlocks new memories that previously were not accessible to him. Remembering a basement in his home, Eren recalls that his father, Grisha Yeager, said it contained secrets the world never knew. Erwin Smith, a Scout commander, plans to use Eren's transformation to retake Wall Maria and so access the basement. The first experiment to retake Wall Maria, involving Eren transforming into a humanoid bulldozer and moving a rock to block a hole that exposed humanity to the Titans, was successful. Continuing actions of this sort, Wall Maria was retaken, allowing refugees to go back to their former homes and fixing the food shortage that many civilians in Wall Rose were complaining about. During the retaking, the basement is discovered and the truth is uncovered about the world.
