I've always been under the impression that:

• Sophia is the agnostic goddess of wisdom and hence our muse
• The potato is our mascot and is named Sophia in honor of the goddess, but is not actually divine, and possibly not even sentient

This is backed up by one of the haiku of Sophia's mythology:

Not the same but well

our lovely potato is

too named Sophia
