Talk:Redshirt effect
-- This article is too factual, especially in regards to Bush's acts of terrorism. Consider adding fallacious information to bring it down to Uncyclopedia's standards.
Most depressing page ever. Though excellently done... --Rcmurphy KUN 06:11, 5 Sep 2005 (UTC)
I spent a good minute and a half laughing out loud, then I felt really bad about it. Excellent work! --Cap'n Ben CUN 07:19, 5 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Funny, but could use work[edit]
It'd be a lot funnier if the last section wasn't a long list of reasons why Bush sucks. --Bradaphraser 18:44, 10 Dec 2005 (UTC)
I know; it's depressing that Bush sucks so much. Sometimes gallows humor is all we have.
Well, it's not so much that as it's kinda been done to death, pardon the pun.--Bradaphraser 01:43, 11 Dec 2005 (UTC)
Here's how I would do the end:
Examples of the Red Shirt Effect in Use[edit]
The red shirt effect has most recently been used, with great political results, by the Bush administration in the United States. Some examples are given below.
Much less I HATE ALL REPUBLICANS. Bias just for the sake of bitterness isn't funny.--Bradaphraser 04:36, 11 Dec 2005 (UTC)
Uh, yeah, the bits that got on the front page are pretty good actually. It's just the ending that I can detect not even the slightest hint of anything resembling humor in. --Nerd42 19:51, 11 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- my point exactly--Bradaphraser 19:56, 11 Dec 2005 (UTC)
I found it somewhat insufferable... the topic had so much potential, and the author uses it to preach his/her view on how *deep breath*
"the evil rich white men who rule our world are blind to the plight of the black, yellow, red, and green men who suffer, forced to scarf up the moldy crumbs that fall from the fat businessmen's TV trays as they (the businessmen, not the (insert non-Caucasian racial identity), masturbate to FOX News Channel. and oh yeah, Bush sucks."
why not talk about how "wearing a red shirt while beaming down to a planet is ill advised, because Starfleet scientists have found that the color red universally enrages the planet's native species to attack and/or cause injury to the wearer of the shirt"? Besides, the article's premise is incorrect. I seem recall the crew of the original TOS Enterprise having some kind of memorial for the phaser room operators who died in one of the episodes, or at least feelings of sadness because one of the operators was set to be married the next day, and he died. So Red Shirts ARE missed. Why not say that the Federation has a clone army, and clones wear red shirts so they're not confused with "real" officers?
It kinda annoys me that User:KP is reverting my edits on the basis of getting closer to the truth. I agree that truth is funnier than stupid, but much of what I changed was based on motivation, since his stated motivations were all from a strictly left-wing point of view (and not widely agreed as being based on fact). I would appreciate if this article was less political. The article as a whole bashes the War, and I'm not asking that it be removed, just made a little bit less like a Michael Moore movie. I don't appreciate being preached to by either side of the political spectrum.--Bradaphraser 22:31, 14 Dec 2005 (UTC)
It is generally considered good form not to mess with the original intent of the writer on any article. Editing for political content is an especially bad idea. If you want another political point of view, write a new article. By altering someone else's editorial content, you are imposing your point of view (which is worse than preaching). --Sir KP GUN 23:04, 14 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I see the idea of "maintaining the original intent of the author" being praticed on any wiki site, but you make a good point. That is indeed how it SHOULD be, so I drop the point.--Bradaphraser 00:35, 15 Dec 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, lotsa good thinking going on here with the actual Star Trek Red Shirts. Hows about we start another article about it? Expendable crewmen? --Nerd42 03:24, 15 Dec 2005 (UTC)
I changa my mind. I think Expendable Crewman would be a much better title. As soon as I think of a really really good angle I'll start writing it if nobody else has. --Nerd42 03:25, 15 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- go for it. Just make sure it isn't stupid ;)--Bradaphraser 03:36, 15 Dec 2005 (UTC)
that's why i'm not just starting to type right away lol --Nerd42 03:43, 15 Dec 2005 (UTC)
Very clever[edit]
I liked the "fact" that the Red Shirt Effect is magnified by the amount of melanin, so that Americans tend to care less about blacks.
sigh has anybody else noticed that none of the people in the pictures are wearing red shirts? --Nerd42Talk 21:58, 7 Jan 2006 (UTC)
One guy is, that dude in the back of the third photo. --YeOldeLuke 00:01, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Woohoo![edit]
Who likes red shirts anyway? -Sockpuppet of an unregistered user 19:53, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
