I'm guessing that this was tagged with that ICU thing for having lots of red links, and not enough links to the mostly non sequitur articles on here. Is that right? If so, I could use some help finding things to link to. Also, isn't it a bit extreme to threaten deletion so soon when the article doesn't completely suck? Or is it not funny and just stupid? Please talk; this place has been silent up until now. --Sir george hova ii 09:42, May 6, 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I put some better links in, and it will continue to look pretty good, assuming that my template doesn't get reverted again. --Sir george hova ii 10:27, May 6, 2011 (UTC)
- The article looks better now. I don't think anyone will tag it with ICU again, but I'll give some reasons why I tagged in the first place.
- The red links and ugly layout made it look like the article was copied from somewhere else rather than written for Uncyclopedia.
- It's a made-up subject that no one has ever heard of, which makes me think it's an inside joke.
- Is it not funny and just stupid? Well, did you read HTBFANJS? It's not meant to be insulting. It's actually a rather good primer for writing comedy. Nothing in your article really stood out as an attempt at humor, except at the end where
- You reference two old Uncyclopedia in-jokes. Not only is it stale (I hate to say it, but Oscar Wilde is about as funny as Chuck Norris these days) but it's totally random: you could replace the names with anything else and it wouldn't make a difference.
- It was your first edit so there was statistically a good chance that you didn't really care about this article and would never come back to improve it. Indeed, you seem to have abandoned the account you used to create the article. The fact that you did come back to improve it shows that everything worked out okay.
- I won't deny that this is harsh. An admin managing the ICU queue probably wouldn't have deleted the article as it was, but then again, they're nicer than me. Please don't take this criticism as discouragement, but use it as an opportunity to improve, if not this article, then one you write in the future. --Pleb SYNDROME CUN medicate (butt poop!!!!) 03:43, May 7, 2011 (UTC)
- Firstly, thanks to Frosty, Lyrithia, and Syndrome for contributing.
- You're right about red links, and the red links are mostly gone, minus the ones that link to articles which no longer exist. It was copied from Wikipedia. I figured that one of the pinnacles of parody was mimicry, hence why Uncyclopedia looks like Wikipedia. In what way is it ugly?
- Anyone in computer science would understand this article, so it is an inside joke, but there is a large number of insiders.
- I read the first parts of it, but I gave up when it told me nothing new after a while. I'll read it again.
- True. I'll change Oscar Wilde to a different name if or when I think of what to do with it. The Captian Obvious one wasn't completely random, and the in-crowd for that one at least encompasses all Americans who grew up in the 90s.
- The old account is gone; I can't log in to it.
Thanks for the constructive criticism.
