Hold on... what if x<0? If you owe someone a pie, and you decide to give them (thus you lose 1/0th of a pie) 1/0th of a pie at time, you must give them infinite 1/0ths of a pie, and so you GAIN -infinity 1/0ths of a pie, => -x/0=-infinity? or... --Joachim22 05:35, 13 August 2006 (UTC) Finally somebody gets it. --Gamiac 04:45, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Makes sense. But say you have a pie. And you want to share it with two people, and yourself. So you divide it by 3. You want to share with one person, you divide by 2. You want to eat the entire pie yourself, you can divide by 1. If you just want to look at the pie, and not have it sliced or eaten at all, you can divide by 0. Division by 0 should thus equal a whole pie. >:(
(Response to above) No... If you don't eat the pie or do anything to it, then you divide by zero, in which case there is an infinite amount of pie for each person who doesn't want to eat it. -Sharkis 22:37, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
0 goes into anything infinity times...
No, because we all know that , including infinity. Does it? --Some crazy guy [MUN] [FUN!!] 04:23, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
I'll just try to clear this up - this is actually true, x/0 does equal infinity, and infinity times zero can equal pretty much any number. If you still do not understand, see this. -- Sir Cs1987 UOTM. t. c 05:38, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Whoops[edit]
When I wrote this, in my junior year (almost one year ago), I was in Pre-Cal. I didn't know that dividing anything by zero would be infinity. I declare it amazing foresight and outstanding mathematical ability. And yes, I am the author. --Sharkis 20:32, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- No, that's not right. x/0 is not "infinity". That's like asking the question "If you walk east along the equator, and you can walk on water, and you never have to stop, how many steps do you have to take until you're on Mars?" The answer isn't "infinity steps." x/0 isn't infinity - it's undefined.
- So infinity is defined? :P Just cos some loon thinks he came up with a way of (sometimes) doing maths with infinity, don't make it defined. MrN Fork you! 23:56, Aug 23
- Sure. Infinity is defined as "an indefinitely large number or amount." And no matter what indefinitely large number of 0s you added together, you would never get any pie.
- So if you take pie, divide it by knife, you get a slice right? MrN Fork you! 02:30, Aug 24
- Have you noticed that a picture of breasts represents the concept of collaboration in your sig? Breasts are scary enough without the thought that they're conspiring with each other. 06:48, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
