The legend of the puzzle potato[edit]

In January 2005, the two main developers of the site, Chronarion and Stillwaters, went on a fishing trip to escape their failing comedy careers. They cast their lines into a heavily polluted river, hoping to catch dinner. Instead, Chronarion reeled in a massive, mutated, jigsaw-patterned potato. As they stared at the starch monstrosity, the potato allegedly whispered the entire source code of a parody website into their minds. Inspired by this divine, carbohydrate-based vision, they rushed home to create Uncyclopedia and made the Puzzle Potato the site's official logo. Historians agree this was the worst fishing trip in human history.

The "Golden Age" of illiteracy[edit]

Following the Great Fishing Incident, the site entered its foundational era. This period was marked by an influx of millions of users who all shared a unique trait: they had never read a book in their entire lives. The developers proudly watched as the database filled up with spelling errors, broken links, and jokes that required a profound lack of intelligence to understand.

The Server Migration Disaster[edit]

In the late 2000s, the website suffered a massive blow when the servers were moved from a professional hosting center into a damp cardboard box in a volunteer's basement. The community celebrated this move as it perfectly matched the quality of the articles. To this day, page loading speeds are determined entirely by how fast the host's pet hamster can run on its wheel.

The Great Fandom Betrayal and the Spudless Era[edit]

In 2006, a corporate conglomerate known as Fandom bought Uncyclopedia. They did not do this to support the arts, but rather to see how many intrusive video advertisements they could cram onto a single webpage before a user's computer caught fire. For over a decade, Fandom kept the sacred Puzzle Potato locked in a glass corporate display case. However, by 2019, Fandom executives realized that hosting thousands of highly offensive articles written by edge-lord teenagers was bad for corporate sponsors. In a panic, the CEO took the Puzzle Potato, drove it back to the exact polluted river where it was found, and threw it back into the toxic water. Unfortunately for the developers, this polluted river flows directly into the Wikipedia Ocean, carrying the helpless potato straight into the heart of enemy territory. Following this eviction, Uncyclopedia entered its dark "Spudless Era." Because the developers were too broke to buy real web servers and too lazy to look for a new host, the website completely stopped working. For months, the site was entirely useless. Millions of bored internet trolls were suddenly forced to go outside, blink at the sun, and realize that nobody in the real world found their jokes funny.

The Voyage Into the Wikipedia Ocean[edit]

Realising their ad revenue had dropped to zero, Chronarion and Stillwaters knew they had to rescue the Puzzle Potato before it was destroyed by the elements. Armed only with plastic spoons and an unearned sense of confidence, they paddled a leaky canoe down the polluted river and out into the terrifying Wikipedia Ocean. This vast, soul-crushing body of water is the ultimate dark power source of Uncyclopedia's worst enemy, Wikipedia, alongside various other scary encyclopedias on the internet. To reach the potato, the developers had to navigate through a gauntlet of pure, unadulterated boredom guarded by terrifying deep-sea monsters. Each of these sea monsters grants corrupt, unnatural powers to the evil encyclopedias of the world:

  • The Britannica Kraken: An ancient, dusty beast that tried to crush their canoe by dropping 30-volume leather-bound books on their heads. This monster grants evil encyclopedias the dark power of Pretentiousness, allowing them to charge absurd subscription fees for information nobody asked for.
  • The Citation Hydra: A multi-headed monster that refused to let them pass until they provided peer-reviewed sources, formatting guidelines, and a bibliography for their existence. This beast fuels evil encyclopedias with the power of Bureaucracy, instantly draining the joy out of any reader who clicks on a page.
  • The Neutral-Point-of-View Siren: A creature whose singing voice was so aggressively dry and unbiased that it nearly put the developers into a permanent, fatal coma. It channels the ultimate power of Absolute Boredom directly into the heart of Wikipedia, ensuring that no human can read an entire article without yawning. Defeating the monsters by screaming incoherent insults at them, the developers finally found the Puzzle Potato floating in a patch of radioactive seaweed. They grabbed it, shoved it into an old sock, and paddled back to dry land to restart the website. Uncyclopedia was officially back, much to the deep regret of the entire internet.

Uncyclopedia today[edit]

Today, Uncyclopedia is a hollow shell of its former, already terrible self. The website is currently hosted on a server that appears to be a heavily modified, lukewarm toaster located somewhere in rural Eastern Europe. Having survived corporate victories, corrupt power sources, and deep-sea monsters, the platform is now populated entirely by three remaining users who aggressively argue over formatting rules in empty forums. It stands as a monument to what happens when internet trolls refuse to get hobbies, serving absolutely no educational, cultural, or comedic purpose to human civilization.
