M'kay, so, first of all, I would like to officially ask the Cabal to allow the portal folk to kill the "Quaint" and "Coherent" portals, and replace them with something less stupid, when the time comes.

Secondly, I would like to ask the Cabal to allow for more "portal space" on the front page--a fourth column of three topics could be easilly accommodated.

Thirdly, I suggest that we (the portal folk) decide what 12 major topics we're gonna have portals on. Here is my official list of suggestsion:

  • Politics
  • Games
  • Science
  • Mathematics
  • Technology
  • Literature
  • Art (as in paintings, n'shit)
  • Music
  • Cinema, Television & Theater/Theatre
  • Internet & Memes (I actually do think this warrants its own category)
  • Geography (countries, cities, places, etc.)
  • All

I would suggest against the creation of a History portal, because that overlaps into way too many things. Would Mozart be found at the "History" or "Music" portal? Would Hitler be found at "History", or "Politics"? See what I mean?

I would also suggest against the creation of a "People" portal for the same reasons--40% of the pages on this site are about people, probably--that's way too broad a topic.

You're all free to make whatever suggestions you all like, these are just my own opinions. So yeah. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 16:24, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Um. I think that's as good for a list as any I can come up with. OK by me. Although there's a joke I'd like to see: Computers & Technology. -- Style Oranssiviiva.jpg Guide 16:56, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Alrighty, sounds good. I also think we should do the Theater/Theatre thing. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 18:22, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
I asked Cajek to create the quaint portal. We are, after all, Uncyclopedia and there are tons of quaint good articles out there that can host a special portal. As for the rest, I certainly think there is a place for a history portal. I also think we don't need to agree on a list. Let's just play it by ear as we go along, as long as the subject is notable enough we can give it a portal. When we feel there is too many links on the main page we can give it a rest. ~Jewriken.GIF 20:55, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Bear in mind another intention of mine was that once we have enough portals, a "portal portal" if you will, which would be linked from the sidebar. It'd basically be a list/grouping of all the portals in their respective areas, so a sonic one would be listed under game-related portals etc. It would basically try to be a full-page version of those massive templates that live at the bottom of articles. There's several of those, Christianity or Wikis could easily be expanded into full portal pages. If you see one of those, maybe make a list of "series" templates suggested to be made into portals. The portals wouldn't replace the templates, because the templates are actually one of the best way to direct people to related articles, but it would be useful.
As for those 12 suggestions, expanding that sections to 12 is good, though I would consider Internet and Memes to be a sub-category of technology, and cinema to be a sub-category of Arts, to a lesser extent. I think People portal (with Oscar Wilde permanently featured, obviously) would be far more useful than an internet/memes one.
They wouldn't all have to be exclusive either, so Mozart could be listed in the Music, History, and People portals. It's more about directing people to areas of Uncyclopedia they might like, but might not have found otherwise. Spang talk 22:08, 27 May 2009
Eh, I suppose, though I still think stuff like "Cinema/TV/Theater/Theatre", "Art", "Music" and "Literature" all warrant their own portal. I also don't really agree with the sub-portal idea. I mean, with stuff like "Sonic," there's maybe a maximum of 10-12 articles that would go under that respective portal. It's totally unneccessary. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 22:50, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
I only mention Sonic because someone already made one. I haven't looked at it yet. Spang talk 00:09, 28 May 2009
I gotcha. I have nothing against the Sonic portal's quality--it's just as good as the other ones--just conceptually speaking it seems unneeded in my eyes. But to each their own. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 02:39, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
To add to your idea Multili we could instate a portal comitee to oversee the runnings and creation of lesser portals.- - - Atom.gif Silly Angel Atom.gifSpeak Atom.gif Contribs Atom.gif 20:08, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
  • I agree with Spang and Mordillo basically about all that.
  • The "portals" sidebar link looks like a good compromise, since then people wouldn't have to rigorously try to make a portal to each subcategory, but instead create one for anything they like (and get an OK on). It would look structurally better to the occasional user than Main Portals with subportals for some categories and none for others (which would happen since nobody will have the energy or material to fill every subcategory portal).
  • as much as I hate the idea personally, "People" is a good category since, erm, people love to read about people. Correct, people? -- Style Oranssiviiva.jpg Guide 08:06, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
